John Overton Football 2017

John Overton high school has had a great reputation of hard nose and smash mouth football in the past. It is coming back ladies and gentlemen! The 2017-2018 Bobcats are bringing the old Overton back where they run the ball 35+ times a game. The whole school and all the staff members are very excited about this year. All the guys in the locker room are motivated because everyone is doubting the John Overton Bobcats this year for some odd reason. The Bobcats made it to the 2nd round of the 6A playoffs last year and fell short to the eventual state champion Whitehaven Tigers.

Let’s start out with the strengths. The Bobcats have 4 out of 5 offensive linemen returning for another year. The coaching staff has always said that this team will go as far as their offensive linemen take them. The offensive line is led by senior offensive lineman Jacob King, one of the states better lineman that is flying under the radar. Another great piece to this team is Junior QB Sam Mast. Sam Mast is a phenomenal leader and great guy on and off the field. The biggest piece to the puzzle is obviously the coaches. The new Offensive and Defensive line coaches have come in and made a huge impact on the team immediately. The Offense is led by Coach Stewart. Coach Williams is the head coach and he runs the defense. All the guys in the locker want to play for these coaches because they are all like a huge family.

Now with some of the weaknesses. We will see how this defense works vs a high offensive powered team. Depth is also an issue for the Bobcats. They are working on not having a huge drop from starters to backups. After losing 4 Defensive backs the Bobcats are trying to find some guys to fill in some of those positions. Facing those big-time receivers in 6A might turn out to be a problem for the Bobcats during the season.

My prediction for the Bobcats season is 8-2. I think the Bobcats will play bully ball all game, and you can’t load the box with the speed and size that the Bobcats have at wide receiver. People are going to realize very quick that the Bobcats are nothing to play around with.
