New Kings of Metro Nashville

cudeyivwcaah1ssWell well well, just a few weeks ago we had said that the Stratford Spartans are the new top team in Metro Nashville. No Surprise I had several people express that Stratford hasn’t played anyone and their schedule is a cakewalk.

Say what you must, Coach Maurice Fitzgerald is really doing something special with these East Nashville young men. Fitzgerald not only a great X and O’s coach on the field, but in my opinion a better father figure to his players that has his players believing in themselves this fall.
The Spartans have had a complete makeover from a year ago today. The 2015 squad was 5-3 at this point. Now those previous years three losses being all wins this year against White House Heritage 56-7, Marshall County 28-21, & CPA 7-6.  Stratford quite possibly could run the table going 10-0 as their last two opponents are Whites Creek at 2-5 and Greenbrier at 5-3.
The Spartans have a lot to be proud of as their defense is leading the charge on a lot of these wins. Through eight weeks the Spartans have only cude00yweaacnwxallowed 67 points, averaging 8 points allowed per game. Offensively, quarterback Josh Trueheart along with his offensive linemen are managing the game without turning the ball over and giving up silly penalties. You throw in University of Memphis commit Terrell Carter to help out on both sides of the ball and now you see why the Spartans are flying high.
When we say the Stratford Spartans are the new Kings of Metro for 2016 they have definitely earned it in the spring, summer and now late fall. For the fan in us we would love to see an annual game between the Stratford Spartans, the Pearl Cohn Firebirds, Hillsboro Burros and the Cane Ridge Ravens  just to name a few. But until then, we at D1 Highlights are loving what we’re seeing right now in East Nasty.
