NO PLACE LIKE HOME

There’s no place like home when it comes to an advantage on the football field. Home teams have the luxury of things like fan support, not having to travel across town or across state for that matter. However for the East Nashville Eagles this has not been the case. For 6 seasons, since East Nashville Magnet has revitalized their football program, the Eagles have had to travel across town to the TPS Complex in South Nashville.

East Nashville’s New Stadium Update

We asked Head football coach Brian Waite to answer a few

questions for us relating to the new stadium.

Q&A

D1H: Describe the struggle in have played every game up until the

opening of the new stadium as if it was an away game.

BW: It’s been tough for us, especially financially, as we’ve had to travel every week. We’ve certainly managed this process well, but there’s nothing like playing Friday Night Football before your peers and family at your school! Under the current procedures, there’s always a feeling of being rushed, hurried. It will be strange for us when we have the first home game as we have always prepared for travel.

D1H: What has been the mindset of your athletes having to travel to every game?

BW: The players have done an outstanding job with the current

situation. They haven’t complained at all. Every game is the same for us, whether Home or Away! We are looking forward to

distinguishing the two.

D1H: Currently there is a delay that will prevent the 1st home game from being played on the new field…why is that?

BW: Everything’s a process! When you build and the expectations are high, you want things done right, perfectly executed. The project was delayed several weeks due to a few permits that needed approval. Now, the project is moving right along.

D1H: What is the projected first game to be played on the field?

BW: September 22nd versus Chattanooga Brainerd. I am very excited to open the new stadium with friends and family from my home town!

D1H: What will the new field and stadium be called?

BW: Not sure.

D1H: What has it been like dealing with the politics behind the new stadium construction?

BW: A learning experience. We are very thankful and appreciative of everyone that has supported this venture.

D1H: Give us a quick insight on returning starters and strong points of this years team to add into the article.
BW: The 2017 edition of the East Nashville Eagles is a very enthusiastic group of young men with a point to prove. We have a really good group of Seniors that have taken the charge and a really great supporting cast of Juniors and Sophomores! They are excited about playing in the new stadium and would like to leave their legacy on the program as the ones before them did.
Some of our key returners are:
Seniors – Brian Thompson, Jevon Talley, Malik Watkins, Jeffery Lee
Juniors – Jashon Watkins, Rondarius Gregory, Anthony Collier, Jaylun Davis, Isaac Buford
Soph. – Yukari Blanchard, Arondai Thompson, Bronson Hardin, Lester Shaw (Trey)
