Overton Bobcats vs Father Ryan Fighting Irish 2017

D1 Highlights - Prep Football NewsJohn Overton vs Father Ryan is always a good one! One of the biggest high school rivalries in Middle Tennessee. There were very high expectations for this game but a lot of people and fans think that it didn’t live up to it. Here is a recap of the game!

The Bobcat Defense got off to a great start as they forced a fumble inside the opponents 10! Jackson Byrd coughed it up and it was recovered by Nathan Kimble. The Bobcats scored by Quarterback Sam Mast throwing a bubble screen to Keidron Henderson for a touchdown! The bobcats went up with an early 6-0 lead with a missed extra point by Jose Bravo. Father Ryan came back with an exceptional 80-yard drive which resulted in a touchdown led by Quarterback Seamus O’Connell and running back Jackson Byrd. Jackson Byrd punched it in with a 10-yard TD run. Father Ryan was ahead after a quarter 7-6.

Father Ryan Started the second quarter off with a wonderful trick play! Seamus O’Connell dumped it off to Jackson Byrd who showed his quarterback skills off by throwing a deep ball to wide receiver Gray Erwin for a Touchdown! The Bobcats couldn’t get anything going on offense while Father Ryan’s offense was off and rolling. Seamus O’Connell showed off his athleticism with a 20-yard scramble for touchdown! Seamus O’Connell threw a touchdown pass to Jackson Byrd for his 2nd touchdown of the game. Father Ryan went into halftime with a comfortable 28-6 lead on the Bobcats.

Father Ryan started the 2nd half off with an amazing drive which led to a 2-yard touchdown by QB Cade Pfeifer. They are just exploiting this bobcat defense and offense. The Bobcats scored at the end of the second quarter with a 3-yard run by Keidron Henderson for his second of the game. The bobcats couldn’t convert the 2-point attempt. Before the 3rd quarter ended the bobcats attempted an onside kick which they recovered! The Bobcats were starting to get their mojo back. At least that’s what everyone thought. Father Ryan still led the bobcats 35-12 after 3 quarters.

Bobcats started with the ball in the 4th quarter with great field position. Quarterback Sam Mast didn’t have his best game as he threw an interception to start the 4th quarter off. Sam Mast would end up having 3 interceptions in this game. Father Ryan would end up taking this game 35-12. The Bobcats look to bounce back and make some major adjustments for next week’s battle against a great Mount Juliet team which is ranked top ten in Middle Tennessee.
