Back in the day when you were a  young high school football player in Middle Tennessee, like we were here at D1Highlights, your only hopes of getting a scholarship to play football at a D1 school was to show out on the field and hope that a recruiter somewhere along the line had noticed your performance. Now days with social media outlets such as twitter and facebook players can reach out to the colleges themselves. That also leaves a huge margin for error by you the player. As mentioned in our article “Ten Recruiting Tips for Prep Athletes”, you must keep you profiles clean because just as easy as you can find a coach online they may also find you.

Over the years we here at D1Highlights have established a few relationships with college coaches & recruiters. The first thing they ask us about a player is what’s their gpa and what’s their facebook or twitter handle.  Everyday we scan through our D1  twitter account and un-follow several players that are not representing themselves to the best of their ability, it looks bad that we would follow players who post disrespectful material. Social media profiles are a great recruiting and public relations tool, use it to your advantage to show the bright side of who you are and why you deserve a scholarship from the college that may be interested in you. You must think of yourself as a brand or a business, and if you were you must ask yourself would you put out for the public to see the thing that you already have tweeted or posted. We have taken lots of time and resources to setup up player profiles on D1Highlights for current players to utilize. The profiles are able to show a players highlight video, photos and much more. Feel free to take advantage of this service that we provide. Once signed up, inform us of the colleges that you are interested in and we will promote your profiles to that institution.
