The Watertown Purple Tigers came to play ball this past Friday night! They jumped on the Davidson Academy Bears pretty quickly with a Ty Love touchdown score from one yard out. Davidson Academy had a quick four and out compliments of the Tigers stout defense. Taking advantage of good field position, star quarterback Seth Price hooked up on a 55-yard touchdown pass to sophomore receiver and little brother Heath Price. Just like that Watertown was up 14-0. Stone Norton, quarterback for Davidson Academy led his Bears down the field however was stopped by a big defensive stand by Watertown on 4th down play on the Purple Tigers 10-yard line. Other than that one drive to the 10-yard line Davidson Academy couldn’t do anything offensively. A exchanging punts, Watertown running back Ty Love scored on an 11 yard touchdown run that was  set up by a 19 yard scamper the play before giving us a score of 21-0  going into halftime. Ty Love a senior running back and defensive end was manhandling the Davidson Academy defense throughout the first half.

Opening up the second half Davidson Academy received the ball & started with a penalty to set them back on the drive. The Bears came out firing after the penalty scoring on a 31yd pass from Stone Norton to Ben Switzer. Davidson Academy kicked off to the Tigers and was led down the field again by the potent offense that was capped off by a Seth Price 3yd touchdown run that added to the lead 28-7. The Tigers then kicked off to the Davidson Academy Bears and had a great kickoff return that was stopped on the 30-yard line of the Tigers. Unfortunately the Bears Drive stalled and came away with no points after a failed field goal attempt. The Tigers took over on offense and drove back down the field again for a Ty Love 29-yard touchdown score giving him the trifecta on the evening and taking the score up 35-7. Davidson Academy did have a bright spot in sophomore Da’Joun Hewitt who showed a lot of heart throughout the game. Hewitt after the previous touchdown by the Tigers scored on a 1-yard touchdown run that was a little too late as the score was 35-14. Immediately after the Davidson Academy touch down, the Tigers drove down the field and scored again off of a 19 yard rushing touchdown by Ty Love again, giving him four touchdowns on the evening. Davidson Academy showed a lot of heart late in the fourth quarter as Junior Ben Switzer took a kickoff back 95 yards to the house, 42-21 now. However tonight’s game was the Ty Love show as he scored his fifth touchdown on a 57-yard run. Love who is a senior is nicknamed The Bus after this weekend’s performance he looked more like a tank in my opinion running over the defense. The game wrapped up with a 56-24 score taking Watertown to a 2-0 record and giving 1-1 Davidson Academy their first loss of the season.

Side note Ty Love was in the hospital at 3 a.m. the morning prior to the game. Love tells us that he was not going to miss this game and that his teammates needed him. Our hats go off to the Watertown Tigers and definitely Ty Love for coming thru after hours previously being in the emergency room. #d1highlights
