We had a chance to catch up with West Tennessee product, 2022 Memphis Academy of Health Science star Cameron Miller this past week. Miller, ranked a four-star recruit on d1highlights.net (#1 receiver in the state for the 2022 class) has had a great freshman and sophomore campaign the past two seasons. In fact his past two seasons have allowed him to earn several big-time offers from the top power five programs across the country.

His first offer came by way of the University of Memphis back in June of 2019, since then Miller has exploded on the scene with other offers like Mississippi State, University of Arkansas, University of Missouri, Florida State University, and University of Indiana just to name a few. Millers unique size, speed, quickness, in addition to his God given athleticism as a rising junior has all of the programs wanting to get this young man on their campus and in their program. The assessment of 6’2, 190lbs on this 16 year old body with room to grow and continue to fill out are the perfect measurements to compete in any conference in the next few years to come.

Q & A

D1H: How excited were you about the Michigan offer?
Miller: I was very excited about the Michigan offer because it’s a big-time program and the big 10 conference. They have a rich history that has allowed them to be in the power rankings for a decade or two now, so it was a good feeling to receive an offer from a school like them.

D1H: Do you currently have a top five favorites schools that stand out the most to you at this time?
Miller: Not at this moment. I don’t have a top five favorites as of now and I am still open for recruitment and for schools to get at me. I will be happy for any school to offer me.

D1H: Have you had a chance to visit any universities as of yet? If so which ones and what was your takeaways from your visit?
Miller: Yes, I have visited Mississippi State, Memphis, Tennessee, and Arkansas. All four of the schools I visited had amazing facilities and the coaches gave me a warm welcome and made sure I was good. Not to mention, all four of those schools won their games when I attended which made for an amazing experience.

D1H: You are a dynamic athlete on both sides of the ball playing defensive back/safety and wide receiver, most programs are recruiting you for which position?
Miller: Every program has offered me as a wide receiver except for the University of Memphis, they have offered me as a cornerback at that program.

D1H: In a perfect world, which position do you feel suits you best at the next level and why?
Miller: The position part I haven’t made my mind up yet because at DB I am a big guy that can move in addition to having good ball skills. I could play man or zone because I can move at 6’2 and take away your best guy on offense. That mentality comes from a mindset of I am going to dominate you every rep I go against you. In regards to WR I have the skills to catch the ball very well and attack jump balls with yards after the catch. One of my favorite moments as a wide receiver is when we get inside the red zone because I can be very dangerous to teams there.

D1H: Back in 2018 you tweeted that you could punt the ball, have you let that be known to the recruiters?
Miller: punting the ball? No I don’t mention that to recruiters because growing up I played soccer all of my life till the eighth grade. So I always could kick a ball and it was just stuff dealing with footwork and the ability to do other things to switch up to football. Basically used soccer for some drills and technique work.

D1H: Is there a program out there now that you are hoping to hear from and eventually receive an offer?
Miller: Naw, I don’t think so because you can’t go to every college. Only one so the one who offered me so far believe in my game… So yeah.

D1H: How has the recruiting journey been for you since you’ve exploded on scene? What’s the best thing about it?
Miller: This recruiting journey has been fun and a blessing because not a lot of people get this opportunity in this world and I am blessed that I get to. I wasn’t always the best when I played, at one point how was the water boy in my career. I know what hard work is and I have put it in every day to have the ability that I have. I will keep working because that’s just the work ethic that comes with it. The best thing about it is that I am at a small school and college coaches still see that I can play, so that’s a blessing. I want to continue to be the best that I could be because the school I go to isn’t that big but it is enough to work with and be a part of a good team.

D1H: Going into this off-season what are some of your personal goals for yourself on improving?
Miller: My personal goal is to be the best player I can be this year in my league and lead my team to the state championships. It is something that has never been done at my school and during this pandemic lockdown stuff, I’ve been working out a lot getting my body bigger, stronger, and faster. These are the necessary steps needed to be successful this year. I also want to get better at being able to beat double coverage and trying to score often by reading defenses better. That is my personal goal for myself and as for my team, I would like to continue to be a better leader.

D1H: What have you been doing during the quarantine to make sure your game ready come fall?
Miller: Working out a lot, lifting weights and being healthy during this time so I can become a better person and athlete.

We are looking forward to seeing Miller later on this fall, he has established himself as one of the top players in the state of Tennessee and the nation for the 2022 class.
