D1Highlights 2013 Quarterback Watch list

We have come to another year of Middle Tennessee High School Football when  the elite #D1Highlight players get recognized before the season starts. This year we have several athletes that have received heavy attention from us here at D1Highlights, local newspapers, university recruiters, and most importantly their high school coaches and teammates.

AJ LONG – Friendship Christian Commanders

The first quarterback on the watch list this year is AJ Long from Friendship Christian, located in Lebanon, Tennessee. AJ is a 6’1, 185lb, dual threat quarterback that has already committed to take his talents to Syracuse University next fall. Coming off a 2012 Class 2A State Championship that included over 2,400 passing yards, 35+ TD’s, and over 600 yards rushing compiling  12 TD’s. This 3 star player is ranked in the top 20 coming out of Tennessee from Rivals, and has had a very impressive 33-7 career record as Friendship’s starting quarterback. This season for AJ will be his last and we feel his most impressive going into his senior year, if he can cap off this season like the last 2 he will go out a 3 time state champion. Best of luck AJ Long, we look forward to watching you develop throughout the rest of this season and beyond!

TY JOBE – Watertown Purple Panthers

The second quarterback on the watch list is TY Jobe from Watertown High School, located in Watertown, Tennessee. TY is a well built athlete that stands at 6’2, 200lbs, and also is a dual threat quarterback with nice speed and arm to go with it. Starting since he was a freshman, TY will be coming into his fourth season at the helm of leading the offense. Last season TY led the offense with over 1,500 passing yards and more than 600 yards on the ground. TY has received offers from Akron, Memphis, Navy, and Western Kentucky. We believe this will be a breakout season for TY to build off his 7-4 record last season and adding more TD’s, rushing and passing to his resume. Best of luck this season TY, you are indeed a legitimate #D1highlight athlete!

Our third quarterback stands at 6’0, 195lbs, Jordan Roundtree from Wilson Central, located in Lebanon, Tennessee. Roundtree is a pro-style pocket passing quarterback that has the potential to be one of the mid-state’s breakout players of the year. Roundtree led the Wilson Central Wildcats to a 7-0 start of the season last year, before hitting a slump and finishing the season at 8-3. Coming off a 1,600+ passing season , 16 passing TD’s, and little over 10 ints, Jordan will be looking to improve his career stats in one of the state’s hardest districts. Watching Jordan play last year we were quite impressed to see how he was able to move around in the pocket and still deliver the perfect pass rather it was over the shoulder or the back shoulder throw that most college and pro scouts look for.  Best of luck to Jordan Roundtree and his wildcat teammates, Jordan you also are indeed a #D1highlight!

Nolan Chowbay - Mt. Juliet Golden Bears

Nolan Chowbay – Mt. Juliet Golden Bears

Nolan Chowbay from Mount Juliet High School, located in Mount Juliet, Tennessee is a name a lot of middle Tennessee high school football followers will get to know this season. Standing at 6’1, 175lbs, Chowbay is another pocket passing quarterback that can also execute a pro-style offense as well. Nolan completed over 1,200 yards in passing as a sophomore last year. He has deceptive speed and can turn on the jets if he gets to the corner. As a sophomore last season Nolan led the Golden Bears to the state semifinals against Whitehaven. With the experience gained from previous seasons, this could quite possibly be one of MountJuliet’s best quarterbacks to come out in quite some time.  We here at #D1highlights, are looking forward to another great season from Nolan and the Golden Bears. You my friend are certified #D1highlight!

Tylin Oden from Spring Hill High School, located in Spring Hill, Tennessee is going to be one of the biggest names coming out of the Williamson/Maury county area in years. Oden, only a sophomore, recently transferred from BattleGroundAcademy from the football heavens and landed in the lap of Spring Hill head coach Tom Turchetta. Oden as a freshmen played with the varsity team last season but to his disappointment they did not win a single game last year. He is motivated the be the competitive leader this time around for the 2013 season. Standing at 6’4, 165lbs, Tylin is a dual threat quarterback who at the flip of his wrist can easily throw the ball downfield. D1highlights had the opportunity to watch this young man at the National Underclassmen Combine earlier this year as he wowed coaches and spectators alike. His height alone makes him standout in the huddle as he commands attention and can be the leader his team needs this year to get back on the winning track. Football is in his blood and is a family tradition, as his uncle Bernard Oden who won 1993’s 2A Mr. Football at Spring Hill and went on to play quarterback at the University of Memphis. Tylin, it was a pleasure watching and talking with you earlier this year. We at #D1highlights believe you are one of the next big things coming out of middle Tennessee, best of luck to you and your team this upcoming season!

Last but certainly not least we have Eric Knight from Pearl Cohn High School, located in Nashville, Tennessee. Eric comes across to us as a raw talent who with the right coaching could pose more of a threat than what he is now. 6’0, 205lbs, this senior has ran the offense at Pearl Cohn the past two seasons and will need a good outing this year to really make a name for himself. Knight has the talent and the makeup to be a really good QB but will need to dig deep within to want to be better by watching film and studying the game, knowing when to throw and when to tuck it and run. Having AJ Morris at the wide receiver position this year should help Eric tremendously in the passing game. Reading coverage’s and continuing to strengthen his arm & body to handle the rigorous pounding a dual threat quarterback receives will make Eric more of a warrior this season. After a losing season last year  this year we feel that Eric Knight will lead his team back to the dominance of the late 90’s but only if he wants it and is willing to put in the time to be great. Eric, you have been tabbed as a legitimate #D1highlight member this season! Go out and get it, and play smart!
