If someone had predicted that going into week 5 of the high school football season that The John Overton Bobcats and Ravenwood Raptors would both be undefeated then they probably would have been looked at with extreme confusion.  Overton finished last year with a mediocre record of 7-5 and Ravenwood was at the bottom of the barrel finishing 3-7. Both teams have taken an amazing turn for the better. We here at D1Highlights had a feeling that we should attend this game of the unbeaten, and we were not disappointed!

Overton dominated the first half of play. Ravenwood tried to wear down the Overton defense by running their no-huddle offense most of the time, but Overton kept-up without missing a beat. They held Ravenwood to 10 points in the first half of play. Overton has several weapons on the offensive side of the ball, and it seemed as if they used them all. They struck first on their opening drive with a 67 yard touchdown run from Kimlee North. North had 93 rushing yards total during the game.  Justin Martin had a brilliant game running the ball as well with 143 rushing yards, he also scored the go-ahead touchdown late in the fourth quarter to put his bobcats on top 27-24 after the extra point. Overton was able to control the clock in the first half while Ravenwood struggled to convert first downs.

The second half was just the opposite, Ravenwood was trailing with the score 20-10 to start the 3rd quarter but their defense stepped up and forced Overton to punt for three straight possesions in the second half.  Ravenwood took advantage of the Bobcats offensive struggles scoring on a Jankowski-to-Cole Brown 33-yard TD pass  mid-way through the 3rd quarter. The Raptors defense continued to shut out the Bobcats offense into the 4th quarter, they the took their first lead of the game on a 4 yard touchdown run by Seth Rowland to give the Raptors a 27-20 lead. Overton finally found its offense  late in the 4th quarter moving the ball 66 yards on 13 plays including a game deciding 4th&8 conversion with a 10 yard pass completed to Max Crow to keep the drive alive. JustinMartin capped off the drive with a 3 yard touchdown run. With only 34 seconds left on the clock Ravenwood managed to tie the game up with a field goal fro the 8-yard line. Overton pulled off the win in over-time by scoring on their first possession and converting the extra point. Ravenwood scored on their possession as well but failed to convert their what would be game winning two point conversion pass to Van Jefferson that was heroicly broken up by Overtons Ugo Amadi.

Final 34-33 Overton
