CLARKSVILLE — Double was the word du jour for Rossview Monday night.

In a Region 5-AAA Tournament semifinal game, the host Hawks posted a 5-0 win against Beech by doing things in twos.

Rossview moves on to face Mt. Juliet in the region finals. The Bears were 9-4 winners against visiting Clarksville, and will play host to Rossview on Wednesday. Both winners have secured sectional berths.

On Monday, a double was the Hawks’ first hit of the game, a double drove in what proved to be the game-winner. In the fourth inning Rossview opened with another double and a failed double play allowed the leadoff hitter to cross home plate and double up the lead at 2-0.

The Hawks then doubled their own lead again with a two-out, two-run, 355-foot home run over the right field fence in the fifth. They tacked on one more run in the sixth, fittingly with a leadoff double to get the runner on base and a double to drive him home.

All told, Rossview finished with four doubles, including three leadoff doubles, and five extra-base hits.

Beech, on the other hand, managed just five runners all night and only twice got into scoring position. The Buccaneers were limited to two hits and left five runners on base. They went 12 straight batters without reaching base.

Taylor Mahowald went the distance for the Hawks, posting the shutout, the two hits allowed and striking out seven.

Sam McWilliams started for Beech, throwing four innings and allowing four hits, two runs and striking out five.

Venn Biter had a double and the two-run homer for the Hawks. The 6-5, 225-pound Kyle Anderson collected two doubles and three RBIs.
